A half-sister is a sister who shares only one of your parents. You have the same mother but different fathers, or the same father but different mothers. You are still blood family. “Half” here does not mean she is only half a sister in love, in law, or in the home. It only means the blood line meets on one side, not both. This is different from a : a comes when a parent marries someone who already has a daughter; there is usually no shared parent by blood. Though actually, families do not always say the tidy word. Many people just say “my sister,” and only add “half” when they need to explain the family tree. It is ordinary family English, not a rude label — but you should follow what the family themselves say.
「half-sister」指同父異母或同母異父的姊妹，兩人只共享一位父母，但仍然是有血緣的家人。這裡的 half 指血緣只在一邊相接，不是說關係打了折扣。它和繼姊妹不同，繼姊妹是父母再婚後才有的，通常沒有共同的血親。
