A half- is a boy or man who shares only one parent with you. You may have the same mother and different fathers, or the same father and different mothers. A full shares both. Though actually, many families never say “half-” at home. If you grew up in the same house, you may just call him your , and that is warmth, not a mistake. People bring out half- when they need to be exact, or when they are explaining the family to someone new. It is an ordinary, polite word. A is different: he is the son of the person your mum or dad married later, so you are not blood relatives. A half- is.
