Gynaecological is the adjective for things that belong to gynaecology — the part of medicine that looks after a woman’s body, especially the parts used to have a baby. So a gynaecological exam is a check of those parts; a gynaecological illness is one that starts there. It does not name the doctor (that is ) and it does not name the field (that is gynaecology). British spelling keeps ae in the middle; American spelling gynecological. Same word, different letters. You will meet it on hospital papers and in news about women’s health, not in everyday chat.
