A granule is one small hard piece of something — bigger than dust, smaller than a stone you would pick up. Think of the little beads of instant coffee, the bits in some medicines you mix with water, or the grains in washing powder. We use the word when we want to talk about one of those pieces, or about stuff that comes in that form. Scientists also use it for tiny bits inside cells, but in everyday English it just means “a small grain.” It sounds a bit more careful than bit or piece: you will hear it in science class, on medicine boxes, and in cooking more than in playground talk.
