If someone is gleeful, they look or sound very and satisfied — full of glee. You use it of a face, a laugh, a voice, a grin. Like glee itself, it can be warm (“the children were gleeful when the cake appeared”) or a little (“a gleeful look when her rival stumbled”). The rest of the sentence tells you which. It is not a cold or formal word; it paints a picture of someone who cannot quite hide how pleased they are. You will see it more in stories than in school essays.
