Glastonbury is a small town in Somerset, in the southwest of England. meet it for two quite different reasons, and people often say just “Glastonbury” for either. One is very old: Glastonbury Abbey, a ruined church house, among the oldest of its kind in England. A hill called Glastonbury Tor stands above the town with a tower on top. Some old stories say King Arthur was buried there — though actually that is legend, not something historians can prove. The other fame is modern: the Glastonbury Festival, a huge summer music festival on a farm nearby. When it rains, the fields turn to deep mud, especially for people in tents, and British news treats the mud as part of the story.
組成From Middle English Glastingaburghe, from Old English Glæstingaburg, “the fortified place of the Glæstingas” (the people of Glastonia) + Old English byrg (“fort”).
