Fungal is the describing word for anything that has to do with a fungus, or is caused by one. A fungal infection is an illness that a fungus is making — not a virus, not a bacterium. Doctors use it a lot: fungal skin problems, fungal nails, fungal disease in the lungs. use it too, for spots and rot on plants. It sounds a little scientific, which it is. You would not usually call a mushroom 'fungal food' at the table. Keep fungal for 'of a fungus' or 'caused by a fungus'.
