1. 1

Frenetic activity is very fast and not in good order — people rushing, talking over each other, trying to do too many things at once. We use it for a scene or a stretch of time: a frenetic morning, a frenetic pace. It does not usually describe a person’s whole character. It is a fairly grown-up word; in easy talk people often say crazy busy. Though actually, frenetic is not the same as angry. The mess comes from speed and too much energy. It sits close to , but often sounds more scared, as if someone needs help right now.

組成From Middle English frenetik, from Old French, from Latin, from Greek phrenētikós “out of your mind,” from phrḗn “mind.” Frantic is the same old word in another later shape. People now stress the middle (fren-ET-ic) because it lines up with other words ending in -etic, even though the older pattern would stress the front.
