A frenemy is someone you stay friendly with on the outside, but who is really against you, or is trying to beat you at the same thing. You might chat, smile, and even go out in the same group, yet you do not fully trust them. People use it about school, work, and famous people. It is an informal talking word, not for a serious letter. Though actually, it is not always a deep enemy. Sometimes it is a friend you also compete with, and the warm and cold feelings can take turns.
組成A blend of friend + enemy: the front of friend and the back of enemy. Writers made it more than once. By 1952 some already used it as a normal word; decades later others still treated it as a one-off joke. Now it is widely known.
