A fratricidal war or struggle is one in which people kill members of their own society or group — neighbor against neighbor, not against a foreign army. The oldest meaning is about killing a . Writers still use that weight: a civil war is often called fratricidal because it feels like a family tearing itself apart. It is a formal, serious adjective, used in news and history, not in everyday chat. It has nothing to do with a frat (a US college club), even though the beginning looks the same.
