A foreleg is one of the two legs at the front of an animal with four legs. A dog’s forelegs take a lot of the landing when it jumps; a horse can hurt a foreleg on hard ground. The pair at the back are the hind legs, the back legs. Like forefoot, this is the word animal doctors and riders reach for. We do not use it for a person’s arms, even though arms are at the front — those stay arms. It is a clear, slightly specialist body-part word, more at the clinic or the farm than in casual chat about people.
