A flyswatter is a small tool for killing flies: a long handle with a flat, light head. You wait until a fly sits still, then you — a quick flat hit. The head is often plastic with holes in it, or a bit of mesh, so it can move fast through the air and still land hard. You keep one hanging in a kitchen or by a window. People also write fly swatter as two words. It is a home word, not a formal one. Though actually, plenty of flies just leave in time, and many people now reach for spray or an electric zapper instead. The old name for the hitting tool is still this. is the hit. A swatter is a thing you with. Put fly in front and you know what it is for.
