A flycatcher is a small bird. It often sits still on a branch or a fence, then darts into the air to catch flies and other insects, and often comes back to the same perch. That hunting style is how it got the name.
There are many kinds, in many countries. Birdwatchers use the name for a whole group of small insect-eaters. In Taiwan you will meet birds whose Chinese names end in 鶲 — those are flycatchers and close relatives.
Though actually, the English name is a bit loose. Not every bird called a flycatcher is a close family member in science, and some eat more than flies. The everyday idea is still: small bird, catches insects in the air. It is not a trap, and it is not the sticky plant.
