Two ordinary words stuck together: film + maker, the person who makes a film. The word points at whoever is genuinely behind the film as a whole — usually the director, sometimes the producer who finds the money and organises everything. It does not mean everyone who works on a film; a camera operator or an actor is not called a film-maker.
