Someone who makes films as their job, especially the person who directs a film or the person who pays for it and organises it.
film-maker 是「拍電影的人」的統稱，導演（director）跟製片（producer）都算在裡面。中文很容易一律翻成「導演」，但 film-maker 的範圍更大：只要是把一部片做出來的那個人，都可以這樣稱呼。maker 這個字尾可以想成「做出某樣東西的人」，就像 shoemaker（做鞋的人）、dressmaker（做衣服的人）一樣，film-maker 就是「做出電影的人」。

Two ordinary words stuck together: film + maker, the person who makes a film. The word points at whoever is genuinely behind the film as a whole — usually the director, sometimes the producer who finds the money and organises everything. It does not mean everyone who works on a film; a camera operator or an actor is not called a film-maker.
