    A moviemaker is a person — or sometimes a company — who makes films. It is a close friend of filmmaker, which many people use instead, especially outside the United States. The moviemaker might be the director, the producer, or, more loosely, anyone whose job is putting a film together. Everyday English is a bit messy here: a news story may call a famous director a moviemaker even when a whole crew did the work. It is a straightforward compound, and it sounds a little more American than filmmaker.
