A fauxmance is a love story that is not real. Two famous people — actors, singers — pretend to be a couple so newspapers, magazines, and fans will talk about them. The romance is for the cameras and the headlines. It is a gossip-page word, quite new, and a little playful. You will not meet it in school books. People watching may or may not know it is pretend; the point, for the famous pair, is the attention. Though actually, the press uses it with a wink — it already says "this may be fake" in the word itself.
