    If someone is fastidious, they are very careful about small details in how they look, how they work, or how a thing is finished. A fastidious dresser notices a loose thread. A fastidious cook will not send out a plate with a smear of sauce on the rim. The word often leans toward “hard to please”: the person is not only careful, they are , and other people can feel a little judged. You will hear it a lot with and food — “fastidious about dirt,” “a fastidious .” Though actually, the older heart of the word is disgust. It was borrowed from Latin fastīdīōsus, from fastīdium, a or a turning away because something felt too much, perhaps from fastus (disdain) plus taedium (disgust). You can still feel that thin skin for mess inside the modern “careful about details” sense. It is a slightly formal, adjective. It has nothing to do with being fast.

組成Borrowed from Latin fastīdīōsus (“feeling disgust; scornful; also causing disgust”), from fastīdium (loathing, daintiness of taste), perhaps from fastus (disdain) + taedium (disgust). English kept the “hard to please / very particular” side.
