A fanboy is a boy or young man who loves one computer game, comic, film, phone brand, or TV show so much that he talks about it constantly, defends it, and knows tiny details. Other people often use the word about him, not always kindly — it can mean he will not hear a word against “his” thing. There is a matching word, . These days people of any age, and sometimes any gender, get called a fanboy if they behave this way about a product, especially phones and games. It can also be a verb: to fanboy over a new film is to gush about it. This is informal internet and hobby talk. You would not put it in a school essay unless you were writing about that culture. Though actually, the teasing bite is part of the meaning: a fan just likes something; a fanboy, in this sense, likes it too loudly.
