    Extrajudicial means outside the ordinary power of the courts and the law. An extrajudicial killing is when someone is killed without a trial — the court never got to do its job. It can also describe other acts taken beyond what the law allows, or beside the court process, such as holding someone with no legal order. It is a heavy, formal word, used in news, human rights reports, and law. Though actually, people sometimes stretch it to mean unofficial more loosely, but the core idea is this: it did not go through the proper legal path. Extra- here is not more; it is outside.
