An executor is the person named in a will to carry out what the dead person asked for: pay the bills, give the house to this child, give the money to that friend. It is a legal word, used by lawyers, banks, and families after someone dies. You will meet it in letters and court papers, almost never in casual chat. Though actually, it comes from the same old idea as execute — to carry something out, to follow it through. The killing sense of execute later took over in everyday talk, which is why this quieter legal sense now needs its own word. You will also meet literary executor: the person who looks after a writer's papers after they die. Same job idea, different pile of things to carry out. It has nothing to do with killing.
組成From Middle English executour, from Anglo-Norman executour, from Latin exsecūtor, the agent noun of exsequor, 'to follow through, to carry out.'
