People mostly use escapist about films, books, games, and holidays that let you forget the hard or boring parts of real life for a short time. You come home tired, you put on a superhero film or a light novel, and for a while the bills and the news are not in the room. That kind of fun is escapist. It is not an insult by itself — though actually some critics say it with a little sniff, as if wanting to forget were a weak thing. Plenty of ordinary people want exactly that, and they are not ashamed. As a noun, an escapist is someone who does this a lot, who would rather stay inside the story than face the day; that noun feels a bit cooler and more judging than the adjective.
