Epidemiology is the study of the way diseases spread through groups of people, and how we can control them. It is not mainly about one body on a bed. It is about patterns: how many people got sick, in which places, at which ages, after which meals or journeys. From those numbers, scientists look for the cause and for the best way to protect everyone else.

Epidemiology「epidemiology」 is是 the study of the way diseases spread through groups of people研究疾病如何在一群人裡傳播的學問 and也是研究 how we can control them我們可以怎麼控制疾病。It它 is not mainly about主要關心的不是 one body on a bed病床上的某一個人。It它 is about關心的是 patterns模式 how many people got sick, in which places, at which ages, after which meals or journeys多少人生病了、在哪些地方、哪些年齡層、吃了什麼或去了哪裡之後。From those numbers根據這些數字 scientists look for科學家會去找 the cause病因 and for the best way to protect everyone else以及保護其他所有人的最好辦法。

You will meet the word in news about flu, dirty water, or a new virus, and in public-health classes. Though actually, the same tools are used for things that are not infections at all — smoking and lung disease, car crashes, even loneliness — because “who, where, when, how many” still helps.

You你 will meet the word會遇到這個字 in news about flu, dirty water, or a new virus在有關流感、髒水或新病毒的新聞裡 and也會 in public-health classes在公衛課程裡。Though actually不過 the same tools are used同樣的方法也會用 for things that are not infections at all在完全不是感染的事情上 smoking and lung disease, car crashes, even loneliness比如吸菸和肺病、車禍、甚至孤獨感 because因為 "who, where, when, how many" still helps「誰、在哪裡、什麼時候、多少人」這樣的問法還是有用。
