An entryway is the door, gate, or small space you go through to get into a place — the way in. It might be a front door, a gate, a short hall, or the little room just inside a house. American English uses this word a lot. British English often says entrance, hallway, or porch instead, though people still understand entryway. At home it is often where you take off your shoes and put down a wet umbrella. Though actually, it names the space you pass through, not the act of walking in. Entrance can mean the space, the door as a point, or the act of going in; entryway stays with the space.
