    Entrapment is the noun: the practice of trapping someone by tricking them. Its serious home is the law. In court, a person may say the police (or someone working with them) did not wait for a crime to happen — they pushed, , or fooled the person into doing it, so they could then show that person was guilty. If a judge agrees it was entrapment, the case can fall apart, because the crime was in a sense made by the people who were supposed to catch it. Outside the courtroom, people still stretch the word for any “you set me up” feeling, but that looser use is not what lawyers mean. It is a formal, news-and-law word.

組成entrap + -ment (the act or result). From entrap + -ment; the -ment ending came into English through French, from Latin -mentum.
