Edutainment is film, television, or computer software that tries to teach you and you at the same time — a science show that feels like a game, a cartoon that sneaks in history. The word itself is a blend of education and entertainment, made in the late twentieth century. Though actually, some people use it with a small smile, as if it is a marketing word: they wonder whether the 'edu' or the 'tainment' is winning. It is informal-to-neutral, common in media and in talk about children's programmes and apps. It is not a school subject and not a formal exam word. You can also stretch it a little to a museum or a live show that mixes fun with a lesson, but the core use is still screen and software.
