1. 1

Earthward means towards the Earth’s surface, or towards the planet. A falling stone, a returning spacecraft, or rain may move earthward. It can be an adverb (the rock fell earthward) or an adjective (the earthward path). It is a quiet, slightly word; most people say down, towards the ground, or towards Earth. Though actually, down is from where you stand, while earthward from space means towards the whole planet — which might not match down inside the cabin. American writing often prefers this spelling without a final s.

    朝地面、朝地球(較書面;口語多說往下、往地上)
