    Skyward means up, into the sky, or towards the sky. Eyes turn skyward; smoke drifts skyward; a bird shoots skyward. It can sit before a noun too: a skyward glance. It feels a little more written than plain “up.” Though actually skyward and skywards mean the same thing; American writing often prefers skyward, British writing often prefers skywards, the same twin pattern as toward / towards. You can treat them as a pair.
