    An earphone is a small speaker you put in or over one ear so the sound goes mainly to you, not to the whole room. Older ones had a wire to a radio or a music player; though actually, many earphones now have no wire (Bluetooth), and people still call them earphones. You often buy them as a pair: earphones. They are smaller than headphones, which sit over the ears with a bigger band. Shops also sell , which sit in the opening of the ear. All of these may be 耳機 in everyday Taiwan talk, but English likes to split the sizes. One earphone is for one ear; a pair is for both.
