An e-reader is a small piece of electronic equipment whose main job is reading e-books. You download books onto it and turn pages with a button or a tap. Many use an e-paper screen, so the page looks close to ink on paper and is easier on the eyes than a bright phone. It is not a full tablet for games, video, and lots of apps — though some devices sit close to that line, and people argue about the border. You hear e-reader in shops and reviews; a lot of people just name the brand. It is a product word, quite ordinary now. The e- is the same electronic flag as in e-book: this reader is for electronic books.
e-reader 指的是主要用來看電子書的小型電子裝置。你把書下載進去，用按鍵或點一下來翻頁。很多機型使用電子紙螢幕，看起來很像紙上的墨水，比起亮亮的手機，比較不傷眼睛。
它不是那種可以玩遊戲、看影片、裝很多 app 的平板，不過有些機型跟平板很接近，所以界線有時會有爭議。在店家和評測裡常看到這個字，很多人則直接說品牌名。它的字首 e- 跟 e-book 的 e- 一樣，表示這是跟電子有關的東西。
