Dyscalculia is a lasting difficulty with numbers. A person with dyscalculia may struggle to recognise numbers, to hold them in mind, or to do even simple sums, even when they are otherwise bright and have had normal teaching. It is not , and it is not just “being bad at maths” after skipping homework. Teachers and doctors use this word; it is a school-and-clinic term, not everyday chat. In casual talk people might just say someone finds maths very hard — though actually that everyday phrase covers many different reasons, and dyscalculia names one specific kind.
