Dulux is a well-known brand of paint for the inside and outside of houses — walls, doors, wood. In many countries, especially Britain and places that grew up with British ads, people know it as much for the dog as for the tin: a big Old English Sheepdog, with long grey and white hair, walked through the advertisements for years, so that kind of dog is sometimes called a Dulux dog. It is a brand name, not a generic word for all paint, though strong brands do get stretched. You buy Dulux; in ordinary talk you do not “Dulux” a wall. Though actually, a student in Taiwan may know the tin long before they know the British dog joke.
