Drink-driving is the act — and in many places the crime — of driving after you have had too much alcohol. British English uses this pair. American English usually says drunk driving, or (driving under the influence). Ads, news, and law all use it. Though actually, the law is not only about a bottle on the seat. It is about how much alcohol is in your blood. You can be guilty in the morning if you drank a lot the night before and still have too much in you. You can also be over the limit without feeling drunk. In Taiwan the everyday hook is 酒駕; English class here often teaches the American form, so drink-driving can look new even when the idea is not.
drink-driving 是指喝了太多酒之後開車，在很多地方這也是一種犯罪。英式英文用這個連字號的寫法；美式英文通常說 drunk driving，或 DUI（driving under the influence）。廣告、新聞和法律都會用它。
法律看的不只是車上有沒有酒，而是血液裡的酒精濃度。前一晚喝了很多，隔天早上仍可能超過標準；就算沒有醉的感覺，也可能已經超過法定值。在台灣大家熟悉的說法是「酒駕」，所以這個英文字的概念其實並不陌生。
