A docile person or animal is quiet and easy to lead. They do not fight you or make a fuss. People say it about horses, dogs, and sometimes children or workers — and that last use can sting, because it can mean “they do what they are told.” It is not the same as kind, and it is not the same as shy. A docile class sits still; a brave class might still be docile if they follow the teacher. The word comes from a Latin verb meaning “to teach,” so the old idea is “easy to teach.” In the English you meet now, it leans more toward “easy to control.” It is a calm, slightly formal adjective, more common in writing than in chat.
