Distastefully tells you how something is done: in a way that is unpleasant or morally off-putting. If someone laughs distastefully at another person's hurt, the laugh itself is the ugly thing. If a poster is distastefully loud, the way it is made — all shock, no care — is what puts people off. It does not mainly name the inner feeling (that is distaste, or looking at something with distaste). It names the manner. You hear it about jokes, comments, adverts, and behaviour in public. It is a little formal; in everyday talk a student might say that was really not okay or that came out ugly. Use it when the doing, not just the thing, is what feels wrong.
