    If you are desirous of something, you want it very much. The old, slightly stiff pattern is desirous of + a noun: desirous of peace, desirous of a quiet life. You will meet it in older books and formal writing more than in chat. Younger speakers usually say they want it, or they are eager for it. Though actually, it is not always a hungry, impatient want — it can be a calm, serious wish. It describes a person (or a group) and what they want; it does not describe the thing as attractive. That job belongs to desirable.
