    To deprave someone is to pull them toward worse behaviour — to be a bad influence, especially on someone young or not yet sure of themselves. You deprave a person when you teach them cruel or dishonest ways, or get them used to things that cheapen them. The adjective you will hear more often is depraved (a depraved act, a depraved person). The noun is . The verb deprave itself is a little old-fashioned and literary; many people now say corrupt, lead astray, or be a bad influence. It is a strong moral word, not a light one. You do not deprave someone with one rude joke; the word aims at a deeper turning toward harm.
