1. 1

To deodorize something is to take away a bad smell, or to make that smell much weaker. You deodorize a fridge, a pair of shoes, a , a bin, a car — the place or the thing that smells. You do not usually say you deodorize yourself; for your body you put on . British spelling is often deodorise, with an s. The verb feels practical and a little technical: you see it on cleaning products and packing labels. In casual speech people more often say 'get rid of the smell' or 'air it out.' Though actually deodorizing does not always mean the smell is gone for good; sometimes it is only covered or made faint for a while.
