Odor is simply the American spelling of : a smell. It is not a different word and it is not a weaker or stronger kind of smell. In careful English it can be any smell, welcome or not — the odor of coffee, the odor of rain, the odor of smoke. In everyday American speech, though, it leans a little toward a smell you notice, and often one you do not love: body odor, a strange odor in the fridge. A nice smell is more often a scent or a fragrance. Scientists and safety notices still use it quite : a strong odor of gas. British, Irish, and much Commonwealth English write and mean the same thing. In American shops, American science class, and American books you will see odor; in British books, and in many Taiwan exams that follow British spelling, you will see . Choose one house and stay in it for one piece of writing. The meaning does not change when the u comes and goes.
組成From Middle English odour, borrowed from Anglo-Norman odour, from Old French odor, from Latin odor. Swedish odör (“bad smell”) is a cousin, not an English family word.
