A demagogue is a political leader who tries to win people over by stirring strong feelings rather than by careful argument — used to show . The old Greek pieces mean “leader of the people,” and in a tidy story that could sound noble. Though actually, in English now it is an insult: you are saying this person uses anger, fear, or flattery, often against some group, to climb. You can also use it as a verb, a little less often: to demagogue an issue is to work that crowd-stirring trick on it. Neutral words for a popular leader are leader, politician, or ; demagogue is the sharp one.
組成From Greek dēmagōgós: dēmos (the people) + agōgós (guide, leader). On the surface, dem- + -agogue.
