Dehumanization is what happens when people are treated so badly, or talked about so , that they are no longer seen as full human beings — with feelings, names, and rights. It can be cruelty in a prison, a war, or a workplace, or it can be language that turns a group into "things" or "animals." Once that picture is in place, harm becomes easier to excuse. The word is heavy and belongs to news, history, and serious talk, not to a joke about a long meeting. Though actually, writers also use it more softly for systems that treat people like numbers — a hospital that never looks you in the eye. That stretch is real in modern English, but the heart of the word is still stripping away human qualities, not merely being rude. It is a noun: it names the process or the result.
