Croatia is a country in Europe. It sits between Hungary to the north and the Adriatic Sea to the south-west, with a long coast and many islands. The capital is , which is inland, not on the sea. For much of the twentieth century it was one of the republics inside Yugoslavia; it became an independent country in 1991, after a war. Around four to four and a half million people live there. Visitors often come for the coast, old stone towns, and national parks. In English, Croatia is only the country. The people and the language take a related form, . It is an ordinary country name, used on maps, in the news, and in travel talk.
組成Borrowed from Medieval Latin Croatia, built like Croat + -ia. The ending -ia is a common way to make a country name (as in Australia). The people-name is older; the country-name is the land of those people.
