A craftswoman is a woman who is very skilled at a particular craft — the same idea as craftsman, named in a way that marks her as a woman. She may work in clay, cloth, wood, jewellery, or another hand skill built up over a long time. The word is respectful. It is used, but you will hear craftsman more often, even about mixed groups, because that form became the general job word for many speakers. Some people prefer craftsperson when they do not want the word to pick a gender; others like craftswoman because it makes the woman visible. None of these is a trick-word: they all sit on craft as skill, not on crafty as sneakiness. Though actually, woman itself is an old compound (the second half is the same man you meet in craftsman), so craftswoman is craft + linking -s- + woman, built the same way as craftsman.
