Cosmeceuticals are beauty creams and similar skin products that sit in a grey area between ordinary cosmetics and real medicine. The companies say the chemicals inside do more than sit on the skin and make it look nicer — they say the products actually change the skin, for example making it look younger. Though actually, “some people claim” is doing a lot of work here. Doctors do not all agree, and in many countries these products are still sold as cosmetics, not as medicines, so they are not tested in the same strict way. The word itself is a blend, and you will mostly see it in ads, beauty magazines, and shops that want a cream to sound scientific. Ordinary talk is more often “anti-ageing cream,” or just the brand name.
