Pharmaceuticals are drugs and medicines, especially as a group that companies make and sell — pills, injections, creams, and the like. In news and business, the word often names that product group, or even the industry that produces it. Everyday English is happier with medicines or, more loosely, drugs (though drugs can also mean illegal ones, so medicines is safer for ). Pharmaceuticals sounds official: a hospital order, a factory, a stock report. The singular pharmaceutical can mean one such product, or it can be an adjective (pharmaceutical research). The -s form you have here is the pile of products, not one bottle.
