To convalesce is to spend time getting your strength back after an illness, often after the most dangerous part is already over. You may still be weak, sleep a lot, and stay at home or somewhere quiet. This is a rather formal, slightly old-fashioned verb. Doctors and older writers use it; younger people usually say recover, rest, or get better. You convalesce from an illness, and you often convalesce at home or in the countryside. Though actually, convalescing is not the same as being in a moment. The word is about the slow stretch when the body is still — you are no longer 'ill in bed' in the worst way, but you are not back to normal life yet. If someone says they are convalescing, they are asking for time and quiet, not for a party.
