A conciliator is a person who tries to make people more likely to stop arguing — often by helping them find something each side can accept, and sometimes by steering one side toward giving the other what it wants. You meet the word in labour news, in , and sometimes as a job title. The conciliator is not the judge who decides who is right. Their work is to bring the temperature down and find a way through. Though actually, it need not be an official role: the conciliator in a family is simply the one who always tries to keep the peace.
