身體:大腸
這一支就是核心畫面本身。
colon (bowel) · noun · B2
the lower part of the bowels, the long tube inside your body where water is taken back from the food you have eaten and the rest is changed into waste.
結腸;大腸
These are two different words that happen to share a spelling — one names a part of the body, the other a mark on a page, and no picture honestly covers both. The anchor here is the bodily one: a picture you can hold of the wide tube at the end of the road, where what is left of your food gives up its water and is turned into waste before leaving. The mark is a separate word with its own history; treat the two as neighbours who share an address, not relatives.

書寫:冒號(另一條來源)
這一支不是從腸道的畫面比喻出來的,而是完全另一條歷史路線(源自古希臘修辭學裡指「句子的一個段落、一個成分」的用法),只是在英文裡拼成了同樣的四個字母。硬要把它連回大腸,會是假的。
colon (punctuation) · noun · B2
