If something is coincidental, it happened by chance. Nobody planned it. Two friends wearing the same shirt can be coincidental. A detective might say a meeting was purely coincidental, meaning it was not a secret plan. This is the everyday cousin of , but the extra idea is luck, not just at the same time. If two events were meant to happen together, they are , not coincidental. Fine in speech and in writing; a little more than by chance.
