Clockwatching is when you keep looking at the clock again and again, not because you need the time, but because you are bored or you want the work, the class, or the wait to be over. It is usually a little unkind if you say it about a person: it suggests they are not really in the task — they are just waiting to leave. Bosses and teachers use it; students do the same thing in a long lesson. You can call the habit clockwatching, or say someone is clockwatching. It is informal, everyday talk, not a technical word. You will also see clock-watching with a hyphen. Checking the time once, for a real reason, is not clockwatching; the word is about the restless, repeated look.
