A classicist is someone who studies the old Greek and Roman world: the languages, the poems, the history, the way those people thought. At university this subject is often called Classics, with a capital C, and a classicist is a person who has made that world their work. Though actually, English also lets the same word mean a person who loves the calm, ordered art style called classicism. That second use is real, but the sense we are writing here is the student and scholar of those ancient books and cities. It is a formal word. You would not call a teenager a classicist just because they like films about gods and heroes; you save it for people who really read Latin or Greek, or who write about that world as their job.
